Railway Safety: A Commitment for All
Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) marks the SARA Railway Safety Week Commemoration 2025 by reaffirming its commitment to a strong, shared, and permanent safety culture.
More than just a policy, safety is a strategy that begins with leadership and is implemented by every worker, at every station, workshop, terminal, locomotive, and within every community along the rail line. Since the start of operations, LAR has achieved notable results, maintaining a record with zero work-related fatalities. These results reflect the dedication, discipline, and commitment of its teams.
However, challenges such as vandalism, stone-throwing, and unauthorised track trespassing persist, continuing to endanger workers, trains, and communities.
Aligning with the official SARA theme for 2025 — "End vandalism and trespassing: safe railways, safe communities – a duty for all" — LAR reinforces its commitment to promoting a safety culture that unites prevention, education, and community engagement.
This mission is fulfilled through direct contact with communities, awareness campaigns in schools and villages, meetings with local leaders, and active collaboration with the relevant authorities. It is also fulfilled internally, with each employee taking daily responsibility to protect lives, infrastructure, and trust in the railway.
Every prevented incident represents a life preserved and a safer service.
Safety is not confined to a single week—it is an ongoing commitment that underpins the future of Lobito Atlantic Railway.
